How They Met
In the summer of 2009, the pair met at Smokey Bones restaurant in Lithonia, where she was working as a hostess and he as a server. They started dating in January 2010 and their first date was at the restaurant. “We were supposed to meet a group of friends there, but they never showed, so we spent the evening talking to each other,” Ilana recalled. “Afterwards we decided to see each other again, and the rest is history.”
The Big Day
The two became one in an evening outdoor wedding in front of a waterfall at Little Gardens in Lawrenceville with reception at the same venue. The bride and groom wore ivory—she in a beaded lace ballroom dress with a corset back and he in a black suit with ivory vest and tie. Ilana chose yellow, purple and green as her corresponding colors to reflect her New Orleans roots. The bridesmaids were attired plum purple dresses, the groomsmen wore olive green vests and ties with black suits and the flower girl and ring bearer wore yellow.
Their 150 guests dined on catfish bites and pork sliders, pasta primavera, blackened chicken and gumbo-tinis.
“The wedding and reception was very laid back, I just wanted everyone to enjoy themselves,” said the bride.
The Daniel’s danced to You for Me by Johnny Gill.
“My most memorable moment was just having fun with my family and friends, and seeing some friends that I haven’t seen since college,” Ilana said. “By the time the wedding was over, and we had taken picture and done all our speeches, I just wanted to relax and have fun and dance. Everyone danced at our wedding. Even my mom got on the dance floor with her house shoes on. I think that was the most memorable moment for me—being there with everyone close to us.
The Daniels went to Oahu, Hawaii, for their honeymoon, a gift from her Aunt Wanda and Uncle Junius.
