The Avondale Estates Board of Mayor and Commissioners has voiced its opposition to House Bill 204.
The board voted Feb. 27 to pass a resolution announcing its opposition to House Bill 204–the ad valorem tax bill, which would prohibit cities from billing municipal fees on the same bill as property tax. Municipal fees—nontax related fees or assessments—include sanitation and storm water fees.
“It will separate property tax from stormwater and sanitation fees and you will get two different bills,” Mayor Jonathan Elmore said. “Passage of the bill will result in increased cost for the city. We will probably lose revenue from people [who are] just not willing to pay it and then have to chase them down to collect it.”
