Four advance to soccer state finals

Clarkston and Druid Hills boys, as well as Marist and St. Pius X girls will play for a state soccer title May 12-13.

Marist and St. Pius X will face each other for the third consecutive year in the Class AAAA state title game May 13 at McEachern High School at 12 p.m. St. Pius won the last two matchups and the defending champions will go for its fifth consecutive state title and eighth in nine seasons. Marist will try to win its first state title since 2014.

Marist beat Jefferson 6-1 in the semifinals to advance to the championship game and St. Pius rolled over Chapel Hill 9-1 in its semifinals matchup.

Druid Hills will try to win its first state title in program history on May 13 at McEachern High School. The Red Devils will take on S.E. Whitfield in the Class AAAA title game at 2:30 p.m. Druid Hills defeated Blessed Trinity 2-1 (6-5 in penalty kicks) to advance to the title game.

This is Druid Hills’ fourth title game appearance in program history. They lost to Briarcliff 1-0 in 1972, fell to Lakeside 3-1 in 1978 and lost to Redan 3-0 in 1988.

Clarkston will also try to win its first state title in program history when they travel to Macon May 12 to take on McIntosh in the Class AAAAA title game at Mercer University. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Clarkston defeated Carrollton 2-1 in the semifinals game.

This is Clarkston’s second title game appearance in program history. They lost to Lovett 4-3 in the 1989 title game.
