Movie production and film crews were filming at different locations in the city Jan. 22 and 23. Movie trucks were parked at Decatur First Methodist Church Jan. 22 and people from the production were seen setting up lights and other equipment at the church.
Lila and Eve stars Jennifer Lopez and Academy Award-nominated actress Viola Davis. The film centers on two distraught mothers, whose children were gunned down in a drive-by, according to imdb.com. The two mothers team up to avenge their children’s deaths after local authorities fail to take action. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.
Decatur Mayor Jim Baskett said having film crews in the city boosts the city’s local economy, “especially if they stay in our hotel and use local restaurants to cater their meals.”
“When they use city facilities like the cemetery, parks or city buildings, they make a donation to local non-profits like our Friends of the Cemetery and the Decatur Youth Fund, which helps the community,” Baskett said. “Plus, it is exciting to see Decatur on the big screen or on TV.”
