Region titles, playoff berths on the line

Cedar Grove and Stephenson headline the list of DeKalb teams positioning themselves for playoff seeding as they play for region championships Nov. 7.

Cedar Grove (8-1) will travel to No. 3 ranked Blessed Trinity (9-0) to play for the Region 4-AAA title. Cedar Grove has secured a home playoff game for the Class AAA state playoffs. It is the team’s fifth consecutive trip to the state playoffs.

The winner of the Region 4-AAA title game will be a No. 1 seed in the playoffs while the loser will be a No. 2 seed.

The Stephenson Jaguars (7-2) and the No. 9 ranked and defending Class AAAAA champions Creekside Seminoles (7-2) will play each other for the Region 6-AAAAA. The game is a rematch of the Sept. 19 regular season game, which Creekside won 28-14.

The winner will be the No. 1 seed from the region and the loser the No. 2 seed. Stephenson has secured a home game and its 15th consecutive playoff appearance with its Sub-Region A title.

Southwest DeKalb and Miller Grove are in must-win situations in their Region 6-AAAAA play-in games Nov. 7.

Southwest DeKalb (6-3), the Sub-Region A runner-up, is hosting Sub-Region B third seed Carver-Atlanta (7-2) at Panthersville. The winner gets a playoff berth. Southwest DeKalb is playing for its first playoff berth since 2012.

The Miller Grove Wolverines (5-4) will play for their first playoff appearance. Miller Grove will face No. 10 ranked Mays (7-2) at Lakewood Nov. 7. Miller Grove is the No. 3 team from Sub-Region A while Mays is the No. 2 team from Sub-Region B.

The No. 3 and No. 4 playoff seeds will be up for grabs Nov. 8 in Region 6-AAAA as Columbia (6-3) hosts Arabia Mountain (4-5) at Panthersville Stadium. Columbia has secured a playoff berth.

The Arabia Mountain Rams need a win to secure the team’s first playoff berth and a second consecutive non-losing regular season. A win by the Rams gives them the No. 3 seed from Region 6-AAAA while a loss would eliminate the Rams. A Columbia win would give Lithonia (6-4) its first playoff berth since 2002 and the Eagles the No. 3 seed heading into the playoffs.

Tucker won the Region 2-AAAAAA title and secured a No. 1 seed after its 27-12 win over Lovejoy Oct. 31. The region title was Tucker’s 15th title in program history.

No. 8 ranked St. Pius (7-2) captured the Region 6-AAAA title and clinched a No. 1 seed after its 48-7 win over Stone Mountain Oct. 31. The No. 6 ranked Marist War Eagles (8-1) will be the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AAAA in the playoffs.
