Early voting schedule released for runoff elections

According to the DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections (BRE), more than 69,700 registered DeKalb County voters cast their ballots in the Nov. 7 general municipal election – however, some will be returning to the voting booths for the Dec. 5 runoff election.

“The runoff election on Dec. 5 is just around the corner,” said Keisha Smith, executive director of DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections. As with the general municipal election, voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots during early voting.

Officials with BRE released the schedule for early voting, which will be held from Monday, Nov. 27, through Friday, Dec. 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Bessie Branham Recreation Center, located at 2051 Delano Drive NE in Atlanta
  • North DeKalb Senior Center, located at 3393 Malone Drive in Chamblee
  • Lynwood Recreation Center located at 3360 Osborne Road NE in Atlanta
  • DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections Office, located at 4380 Memorial Drive in Decatur
  • The former Sam’s Club building, located at 2994 Turner Hill Road in Lithonia

Sunday voting on Nov. 26 will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at DeKalb Voter Registration and Election office only.

Drop boxes will be available during advance voting hours at the Lynwood Recreation Center, Stonecrest, and DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections locations.

“We once again encourage voters to come out and cast their ballot in the runoff as the final election of 2023,” said Smith.

The runoff election will, most notably, determine the next mayor of Brookhaven between H.J. “John” Park, who in the general election received approximately 43 percent of the total ballots cast, and Lauren Keifer, who received approximately 30 percent of the total ballots cast in the Nov. 7 election.

Additional runoff races in Atlanta, Doraville, and Stonecrest’s District Post 2 will close the 2023 election cycle, stated Smith.

“If you’re not sure if you should be voting, please visit our website for more information on the runoff election,” said Smith.
