A bountiful basket of Easter events
The religious and secular celebration of Easter takes many forms throughout DeKalb County, ranging from Easter church services—both indoor and outdoor—Easter egg hunts, picture taking with Easter bunnies, craft making and other games and activities.
Events get underway as early as March 26 and run through April 9 at various locations and we’ve gathered information on a few to share:
Oak Grove United Methodist Church Egg Hunt
The Annual Children’s Ministry Egg Hunt takes place from 3-4:30 p.m. on March 26. Among the activities are: egg hunts, a mission, crafts, and an Easter Bunny photo op. “We will also feature a P’s & Cues Puppet Show. We’ll serve carrot sticks and oranges for snacks. There is no cost for this event, but we are accepting donations of eggs, nut-free candy, small treats like stickers, & pre-stuffed eggs,” according to the church’s website.
Egg hunts are scheduled at:
• 3:00-3:15 p.m. on the Grand Lawn for children pre-K age and younger
• 3:15-3:30 p.m. at Oak Grove’s Christian School playground for children in kindergarten through 2nd grades
• 3:30-3:45 p.m. in the Memorial Garden for children in 3rd to 5th grades
From 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the front parking lot a mission project is scheduled with participants making Easter cards for homebound church members. Rain date for all activities is April 1, 3-4:30 p.m.

Easter sunrise services at Stone Mountain Park
On Sunday, April 9, Stone Mountain Park will present two simultaneous, interdenominational Easter services at the top of the mountain and at the base of the mountain on the Memorial Lawn.
Park gates will open at 3 a.m. and the Summit Skyride will open at 4 a.m. to begin taking guests to the summit. Services will begin at 7 a.m. As is tradition, many attendees will walk up the mountain for the service. Park officials suggest allowing at least an extra hour due to expected large crowds. Both services will feature sign language interpreters for hearing impaired guests.
Vehicle entry to the park is $20 for a one-day permit or $40 for an annual permit. Church vans and buses enter free. Skyride fees are $20 for round-trip and $15 for one-way. There are no fees for the walk-up trail to the top of the mountain.
The park is located at 1000 Robert E. Lee Boulevard in Stone Mountain.
