Applications being accepted for Stonecrest citizens academy
Residents and business owners in Stonecrest can apply for the Stonecrest Citizens Academy through Sept. 27.
A news release states that the academy will accept 30 participants in the 2023 summer session and will consist of six sessions held on Thursdays from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. through Nov. 27 at Stonecrest City Hall (3120 Stonecrest Blvd) and Stonecrest Parks and Recreation Center (5101 Browns Mill Rd).
The citizens academy is designed to inform residents about their local government, including the roles and services provided by Stonecrest. Participants will learn firsthand from city employees and get a behind-the-scenes look at how Stonecrest’s government operates, according to the news release.
City officials used part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) funding to create the academy after the results of a communitywide survey requested the citizens academy and other amenities. Stonecrest city council approved the allocation of $25,000 in ARPA funds for the establishment and support of a new academy in November 2022.
“The program will inspire and inform attendees on the best practices to maintain their properties, budget for expenses and enhance the structure’s aesthetics, while increasing the value of their property,” the news release states.
Applicants must commit to attending all sessions, must be at least 18 years old, and must own a business in Stonecrest or live in Stonecrest, according to the news release.
