Atlanta, Stonecrest welcomes newly elected officials after runoff races
The results of the last election for DeKalb County residents in 2025 are in after voters cast ballots in runoff races in Atlanta and Stonecrest on Dec. 2.
In the Atlanta races that included portions of DeKalb County, Thomas Worthy gained approximately 59 percent of the total votes cast to defeat Thad Flowers and be elected to the city council.
“Now the work begins,” said Worthy after the election. “Atlanta deserves safe streets, reliable infrastructure, and a city government that delivers. And with the World Cup coming next year, we have a real opportunity to show the world the best of our city. I am ready to get to work and build something worthy together.”
In the Atlanta Board of Education District 8 race, although Emory University graduate Royce Mann secured most of DeKalb County’s ballots, Kaycee Brock ultimately won the seat with about 55 percent of the total ballots cast in both DeKalb and Fulton counties.
“Thank you, Atlanta,” said Brock in a Facebook post after the elections. “I am so proud of this campaign and, if I’m honest, I’m thankful that my ego and feelings didn’t get in the way of what mattered most – my integrity. I look forward to sharing more, but for now, we celebrate, we move forward, and we focus on doing great work for the kids. I’m ready and so excited to serve.”
In Stonecrest, a new face will be joining the city council as Karmesha Washington Smith secured approximately 51 percent of the total ballots cast to defeat incumbent Tammy Grimes.
“Congratulations to Karmesha Washington Smith on a hard-fought win and the beginning of a new chapter for our community,” stated members of The Stonecrest Podcast after the election in a social media post. “We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tammy Grimes for her dedicated service and the impact she’s made as an amazing councilwoman for District 5. Stonecrest is moving forward—together.”
More than 2,400 ballots were cast during the Dec. 2 runoff elections in DeKalb, according to data on the county’s Voter Registration and Elections website.
