Body of missing child found in lake

The search for a child who wandered off from a Stone Mountain home came to a tragic end in the early morning hours of April 12.

DeKalb County Police Department sent an alert at around 9 p.m. on April 11 asking the public to be on the lookout for 4-year-old Kyuss Williams in Stone Mountain. “Kyuss wandered away from 1251 Fair Pines Cove around 6:30 p.m.,” stated police. He was described as 3 feet 6 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing grey pants and a white shirt when he was reported missing.

The search for Williams continued for hours until Williams’ body was recovered from a lake behind the property at approximately 1:30 a.m. the following morning.

“Thank you to all who helped spread the word,” police stated. “Unfortunately, Kyuss was recovered in the lake behind the residence. It appears that he drowned. There is no foul play suspected at this time, but our investigation continues. We have nothing further at this time.”

Police officials said the child and his family were visiting someone who had recently moved to the area when they noticed he had wandered off. Investigators said everyone was inside the home in Stone Mountain when they noticed his disappearance.

“These are my apartments,” said neighbor Kamesha Mckelvey on social media. “(I) just got the alert last night just to wake up to him gone. This is so heartbreaking.”
