Cedar Grove blows out Redan

Cedar Grove High School beat Redan High School 70-0 in football Oct. 15 at Hallford Stadium.

The Cedar Grove Saints (3-0) took a 43-0 lead over the Redan Raiders (2-1) before the end of the first half and cruised through the second half with a running clock.

Cedar Grove capped off its strong first half with a 27-yard pass from quarterback Austin Smith to receiver Sam Pittman.

The Saints also scored the first touchdown of the night on a 27-yard pass from Smith to receiver Trevon Ferrell.

In the first half, Quinterio Lawson added two touchdowns from the running back position and running back Rashod Dubinion scored a touchdown out of the wildcat and one on special teams. Dubinion’s touchdown run was one yard and his special teams score came on a 55-yard punt return.

Dubinion’s first touchdown was a group effort. After defensive back Antonio Taylor had a pick six called back for an illegal block, receiver Ricky Lee set up Dubinion’s one-yard touchdown by taking a pass to Redan’s one.

The Saints didn’t stop scoring after halftime, with Smith finding receiver Bernard Mack for a 45-yard touchdown on Cedar Grove’s first possession after halftime.

Running back Langston White added a three-yard touchdown run in the second half, Dubinion scored another on a 21-yard wildcat run and defensive back Lamarion Ewing returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown and the last score of the night.

Smith led Cedar Grove with 219 passing yards and three touchdowns while completing 65 percent of his passes.

On defense, Cedar Grove shut out Redan and gave up less than 100 yards of total offense.

For their next games, Redan will play at Carter Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. and Cedar Grove will play at Greater Atlanta Christian Academy Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
