Chamblee participates in statewide Georgia Recovers bus tour

On Sept. 17, city of Chamblee hosted a press conference at the Chamblee Police Department to welcome The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour in recognition of National Recovery Month.

Chamblee is one of 60 stops across Georgia highlighting local people in recovery, families impacted by addiction, and allies who support recovery, according to organizers.

The event was created by the Georgia Council for Recovery in partnership with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) to host the statewide tour. The 2026 Georgia Recovers Bus Tour is celebrating this year’s recovery month theme, “Georgia Recovers in Communities.”

The stop in Chamblee included a set of remarks from Georgia Council of Recovery Executive Director Laurisa Guerrero and a proclamation presentation supported by the Chamblee city council and signed by Mayor Brian Mock.

“It’s important that we applaud those and recognize those who are survivors, who work hard each day just to get through another day,” stated Mock. “It’s not easy, and we recognized that it’s not easy. They wake up every morning and struggle, yet they make it through. For those who have made it for one, two, or five years, they should be applauded and recognized.”

Prior to the bus stop, the DBHDD hosted a crisis response and intervention training designed to help Chamblee police officers safely and effectively handle calls involving people in behavioral health or developmental crises.

“The opposite of addiction isn’t necessarily sobriety, it’s human connection,” stated Guerrero. “The more we come together, the more we show up on the hardest days of our lives, the more we still love our friends, communities, even if we just give someone a smile walking along the side of the road, that might be the smile that changes everything for them.”
