Charity golf tournament supports nonprofits

Atlanta Gas Light’s 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament raised $250,000 to support three Georgia nonprofits, which includes Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta located in Brookhaven.

According to officials, the funds raised will help fuel programs and services focused on education, critical health care initiatives, and youth development across the state.

Since its inception, the Atlanta Gas Light’s charity golf tournament has raised $2.2 million for nonprofit organizations statewide. The press release states that this year’s event added significance as Atlanta Gas Light celebrates 170 years of serving Georgians.

“This annual tournament reflects our commitment to driving positive change,” said Walt Farrell, president and CEO of Atlanta Gas Light. “For 170 years, we have had the privilege of serving Georgia’s homes, businesses and communities. We are equally committed to making a positive difference beyond the work we do. Our legacy is built on delivering the energy our customers count on, and that energy also means being a good neighbor and investing in the places we call home.”

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is Georgia’s only freestanding pediatric health care system, according to a news release. The nonprofit organization’s mission is to make kids better today and healthier tomorrow through more than 60 pediatric specialties and programs, top health care professionals, and leading research and technology, according to the news release. The organization received $100,000 out of the $250,000 raised in this year’s Atlanta Gas Light’s Charity Golf Tournament.

The other two nonprofits are Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta, which serves young people across the Central Savannah River Area and helps them reach their full potential, and the American Heart Association, which has helped people live healthier lives while transforming the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

“Thanks to the generosity of our employees, partners and volunteers, these outstanding organizations can continue creating opportunities and providing critical services that help fuel our communities. That’s why events like this matter,” stated Farrell.
