Cities schedule National Night Out events

National Night Out—a yearly event to promote police-community relationships—will occur in several DeKalb County cities in July and August. 

Officials from National Night Out state the yearly event is a community-building campaign that provides an opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

DeKalb County municipalities participating in National Night Out are giving community members an opportunity to meet with local leaders and police officers and some are offering free food and drinks.

Brookhaven – Brookhaven Police Department officials will host National Night Out Aug. 3 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road.

City officials said the free event will include food truck options, live music, face painting, games, competitions, and similar activities.
Chamblee – Officials from Chamblee are encouraging residents to celebrate National Night Out Aug. 3 in their own neighborhoods. Those who schedule celebrations can register their celebrations at https://bit.ly/nationalnightout2021 and Chamblee officials said local leaders and police officers will attend their events.

Clarkston – Clarkston officials announced National Night Out will return Aug. 3 at Milam Park, 3867 Norman Road from 6 until 9 p.m.
The event will include free KONA ICE, games for children and a chance to meet with local officials. A press release states children will have an opportunity to meet Lighting McQueen, Ironman, and Superman.

Doraville – City of Doraville officials and Doraville Police Department will host “Doraville Night Out” July 31 from 4 until 9 p.m. on Park Ave., which city officials said will be shut down for the event.

According to a release, more than 35 community organizations will be present, and each one will have a booth to share information and resources to the Doraville community. The first 500 children will receive a free backpack that they can take to the different booths to collect information, according to the release.

There will also be arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, a large blow-up slide, a soccer/basketball blow up, a K-9 demonstration, a dunk tank, and the opportunity to pie some city staff.

Dunwoody – Dunwoody Police Department’s 2021 National Night Out is Aug. 3 from 6 until 9 p.m. at Brook Run Park, 4770 North Peachtree Road.

Dunwoody Police Department officials said guests will have an opportunity to speak to citizen volunteers, police officers, and other public safety professionals in an informal setting.

Tucker – City of Tucker officials announced a National Night Out event planned for Aug. 3 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Midvale Elementary School, 3836 Midvale Road.

City officials said guests will be joined by DeKalb County School District leaders, DeKalb County Police and Fire officials and elected representatives from city of Tucker for a free community picnic. Free food will be provided by The Patty Wagon food truck, and ice cream will be available for purchase from Ice Cream Carousel.
