Comeback takes spotlight, nine DeKalb teams win in week two
Chamblee High School was one of nine DeKalb football teams to pick up wins in the second week of the season, when Chamblee downed Arabia Mountain 15-8 on Aug. 28.
Chamblee’s Miles Boyer scored on a five-yard touchdown run with 2:34 to play to send the Bulldogs to victory over the Arabia Mountain Rams at Adams Stadium on Aug. 28.
Arabia Mountain (1-1) opened the game by scoring on the opening possession following a long kickoff return. Running back Zyeir Carswell closed out the 45-yard scoring drive with a 16-yard run around the left end with 8:30 to play in the opening quarter.
Chamblee (1-1) needed just four plays to score the only other touchdown of the game. MJ Riley began the first possession of the second half with a 56-yard run to the Rams’ nine-yard line. Three plays later, Barrett Arnberger bulled into the end zone from three yards out. Boyer added the two-point conversion to tie the game 8-8.
The game then reverted to a defensive battle with the Chamblee Bulldogs stopping the Arabia Mountain Rams on downs twice in the period, and Arabia ending a Bulldog threat with an interception at the Rams’ six-yard line by Kaiden Quinn.
The fourth quarter opened with the Bulldogs punting and then stopping the Rams on downs at the Chamblee 36.
Chamblee began the game-winning drive at that point with 6:58 to play in the game. The Bulldogs drove to the Rams 34-yard line and were facing a fourth and nine when Boyer dropped back to pass. The quarterback was flushed from the pocket and scrambled right where he saw Ben Howard wide open down the right sideline. Howard caught the pass and turned it into a 19-yard gain to the 15-yard line.
A 10-yard run by Riley set up Boyer’s five-yard keeper for the go-ahead touchdown. Jake Grieshop hit the point after making it 15-8.
