CSD Board of Education to hold more meetings to increase community engagement

City Schools of Decatur Board of Education is launching a series of meetings designed to promote transparency and foster more engagement with the community, according to officials.

In a statement released Sept. 7, City Schools of Decatur Board of Education (CSD BOE) members announced the meetings will be held three times a year in the fall, winter, and spring.

“The purpose of the board community meetings is to enhance transparency and two-way engagement between board members and the community,” stated officials. “Each meeting will feature topics of interest, district updates, and training on the board’s use of goals and guardrails to govern. After presentations, community members will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.”

The fall meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Decatur High School, located at 310 North McDonough Street, following the regularly scheduled board meeting which is set for Sept. 12. The topic for this meeting will be grading, stated officials.

The winter and spring meetings are scheduled for January 23, 2024 and April 30, 2024.

In August, the BOE announced that starting this year, meeting times will adjust each month according to the length of the agenda for the meeting.

“The BOE announced the decision to hold earlier meeting times, aligning with the board’s strategic goals of ensuring organizational effectiveness and efficiency,” stated officials. “Except for the executive session, all meetings will continue to be live-streamed and open to the public.”
