Dads deserve love and celebration too

It’s not an urban legend that Mother’s Day spending and creativity exceeds what takes place on Father’s Day.
Dads have long suffered with unimaginative gifts of ties, socks, and underwear. But this year can be different.
Why not make plans now for something outside the norm to celebrate dad. While June 16 is Father’s Day, here are some ideas of events taking place throughout that weekend:

Father’s Day Appreciation Day
Described as “BBQ, Fellowship and Fun,” this event takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. June 15 at The New Black Wall Street, 8109 Mall Parkway, Stonecrest. RSVP to 470-866-1129. The free event is sponsored by Senior Direct Source. Reserve a spot at Eventbrite.com for the event.

Bourbon and BBQ Sip and Paint

Father’s Day Party
Oak Street Health has plans for a “special Father’s Day celebration” from 1 to 3 p.m. June 14 at 1825 Rockbridge Road, Suite 5B, Stone Mountain. Register for the free event at oakstreethealth.com and click on “events” at top of page. For more details, call 470-444-3134.

Father’s Day Nerf Battle
Atlanta Dart Club is hosting a Father’s Day Nerf Battle from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 at DeKalb Memorial Park, 353 Wilkinson Drive, Atlanta. Described as “action-packed fun for dads and kids,” the event includes a “run down on how all the Blasters function, game rules, safety tips” and answers to questions. Free for dads, others $25. Father’s Day Storytime and Picni
Celebrating “dads and all they do,” this event takes place at 11 a.m. June 15 on the square, outside of Little Shop of Stories, 133A E. Court Square, Decatur. “We encourage you to bring a picnic basket and blanket to soak up that summer sun while we read the cutest dad-and-me stories that ever there were,” states the announcement. If it rains, event will be moved inside the store.

Father’s Day Classic Car Show and Cookout
Classic cars and snacks from the grill are the focus of this event that starts at noon June 15 at 4355 Georgetown Square in Dunwoody.
