Decatur attorney, coach assisting civil rights documentary

India Ali—an attorney from DeKalb County and an assistant basketball coach at Southwest DeKalb High School—is one of 12 Black women working on the social justice film Higher Ground to “tell Black stories through the visual medium.”

The documentary is supported and backed by the University of Southern California in conjunction with the School of Cinematic Arts. The documentary’s creators said it focuses on several generations of the civil rights movement in South Carolina.

“I joined the Higher Ground project to provide legal support for the crew of beautiful Black women as they shed light on Black stories in South Carolina,” said Ali.
