Decatur family competes on game show

Viewers of the popular TV game show Family Feud will soon get the chance to cheer on a DeKalb County family on Nov. 21.

In the upcoming episode, five members of the Crowder family from Decatur will compete against another family in the long-running CBS game show hosted by comedian Steve Harvey.

“Each team’s goal is to guess the results of audience survey questions,” states the Family Feud website. “A player from each team initially faces off, answering the question to earn the chance to either pass or play. The winning family gets a chance to earn extra cash in a bonus round.”

Team member Jarred Crowder said his late grandmother and “Family Feud super fan” Thelma Crowder inspired his family to try out for the game show.

“We wanted to go on Family Feud because we’ve always been fans of the show, and we thought it would be a good way to honor [Thelma Crowder’s] legacy as well,” said Jarred. “The process was pretty straightforward; you start by submitting a video with your potential team just telling them about yourselves. Then, a couple of interviews and emails later, we were selected for the show. The entire process took about a year from video submission to getting on-air.”

Jarred said he feels his family was a great selection for the show because of their high energy, quick thinking, and love for the classic game.

“When competing, I was most looking forward to winning and playing fast money,” said Jarred. “I also wanted to be a memorable contestant. At times, we had to remind each other to breathe and take it all in, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!”

Jarred said his family, who have lived in the area for more than 30 years, loved representing the place they call home.

“We simply love Decatur,” Jarred said. “Many of us grew up here, going to school and building relationships that have lasted for decades. Many of my family members work in public service in the area, which we were happy to highlight on the show.”
