DeKalb accepting applications for youth internships
DeKalb County residents aged 16 through 21 who are interested in earning money and learning job skills can now apply for summer jobs through the 2025 DeKalb Summer Youth Employment Program (DSYEP).
DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, along with the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners and WorkSource DeKalb, announced DSYEP is accepting applications through April 21 for 350 youth internship spots.
The program will pay accepted applicants $15 per hour for 24-hour work weeks (Monday through Thursday each week) during the five-week program that is slated to run June 2 through July 3.
The program, according to county officials, will also provide hands-on work experience at various locations throughout the county. In the past, internship positions have included experience in such fields as customer service, administration, and politics for more than 4,000 attendees, according to previous reports from The Champion.
The 2025 DSYEP will feature an in-person format after county officials conducted virtual career academies in previous years. This year’s rendition will also feature half the number of summer internships that 2024’s virtual career academy offered, but the pay is scheduled to increase from $10 per hour to $15 per hour for accepted applicants.

County officials added that due to the high level of interest, participants will be selected via a random lottery system. Applicants not selected initially will be placed on a waiting list.
