DeKalb baseball teams load playoff field

The 2021 GHSA State Baseball Playoffs begin April 28 with eight DeKalb County School District (DCSD) programs and three non-DCSD schools competing in best-of-three series.

DCSD schools in action are Druid Hills High School, Stephenson High School, Chamblee High School, Tucker High School, Lakeside-DeKalb High School, Redan High School, Dunwoody High School and Columbia High School. Decatur High School, St. Pius X Catholic School and Marist School round out the teams representing DeKalb County in the playoffs.

Druid Hills High School (16-7) opens Class 4A hosting Northwest Whitefield High School (20-9) in a doubleheader April 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Druid Hills Middle School. The Red Devils have not won a playoff series since 2003. If necessary, a third game would be at the same site at 4:30 p.m. April 29.

In other Class 4A action, the Stephenson High School Jaguars (9-7) hit the road to Ringgold to face Heritage-Catoosa High School (22-7) in a doubleheader April 28 at 3 p.m. A third game would be at the same site April 29 at 3 p.m. The Jaguars have not won a first round playoff series since back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.

Chamblee High School’s Bulldogs (20-8-1) play at Loganville High School (22-7) April 28 in a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader to open the Class 5A state playoffs. A third game would be at the same site April 29 at 6:00 p.m. Chamblee last won a first round series in 2017.

Class 6A state playoffs get underway for Tucker High School (15-11) with a trip to Houston County High School (23-6) April 28 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. A third game would be at the same site April 29 at 4 p.m. Tucker’s Tigers won its last first round playoff series in 2017.

Three DeKalb teams open the playoffs in host roles April 29.

Lakeside-DeKalb High School (24-4) will be the first to hit the field with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Lee County High School (10-20) in a Class 6A best-of-three series. A third game would be at the same site April 30 at 2 p.m. The Vikings look to break a three-year string of first round losses and add to their record season win total.

The Redan High School Raiders (15-8) host Hart County High School (20-8) April 29 in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. A third game would be at the same site April 30 at 5:30 p.m. The Raiders can extend their three-year string of first round victories.

Class 7A play has Dunwoody High School’s Wildcats (18-10) hosting South Forsyth High School (19-11) April 29 in a 4 p.m. doubleheader. A third game would be at the same site April 30 at 5:55 p.m. The Wildcats can break a string of six consecutive first round series losses.

The Columbia High School Eagles (5-7) return to the state playoffs for the first time since 2017 when they go on the road in the Class 2A playoffs to Model High School (22-6) April 29 for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader. A third game would be at the same site April 30 at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles reached the Elite in 2015.

St. Pius X Catholic High School Golden Lions (21-8) will host Eastside High School (21-8) April 28 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader. A third game would be at the same site April 29 at 4 p.m. The Golden Lions finished the season with a 14-2 record in region play.

Decatur High School (26-4) will host Walnut Grove High School (18-11) April 28 at 4:30 p.m. for a doubleheader at McCoy Park. A third game would be played April 29 at 5:55 p.m. at the same location. Decatur boasts a perfect 16-0 record in region play heading into the playoffs.

Marist School War Eagles (23-8) will host Carrolton Central High School (15-12) April 29 for a doubleheader, but specific times have not been announced. Marist posted a perfect 12-0 record in region play this season. Times for the War Eagles’ round one series will be posted at: www.marist.com/athletics/schedules–scores.
