DeKalb set to be host community for Georgia Football Classic
On Aug. 25, Georgia Football Classic, the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, and Discover DeKalb announced that DeKalb County will serve as the official host community for the 2025 Georgia Football Classic.
The Georgia Football Classic is a neutral-site HBCU college football game celebrating the history, culture, and traditions of historically black colleges and universities. Held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the classic features football, halftime shows, live concerts, cultural showcases, food festivals and educational programs—making it one of the premier HBCU celebrations in the nation, according to the press release.
The host designation centers fans and families in and around DeKalb for a weekend with players, coaches, and marching bands staying in DeKalb hotels and venues.
DeKalb will welcome teams, marching bands and fans with weeklong events and activities including a golf tournament, gospel extravaganza, a college fair, and pep rallies occurring in Stonecrest and other DeKalb location leading up to the Georgia Football Classic showdown between Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils and the Florida A&M University Rattlers on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. at Mercedez-Benz Stadium.
According to Georgia Football Classic officials, the pageantry stretches beyond the field, including halftime performances by the Mississippi Valley State University Mean Grean Marching Machine and the Florida A&M University Marching 100.
“The Georgia Football Classic will be one of metro Atlanta’s most high-anticipated events, providing opportunities for everyone to enjoy the traditions and excitement surrounding the football game,” said Troy Vincent, President of the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County. “This event brings our communities together to celebrate and share in culture, sportsmanship, and richness of metro Atlanta and its rich HBCU culture.”
