Discover DeKalb wins award for beer trail

DeKalb Convention and Visitors Bureau, known as Discover DeKalb, was one of five recent tourism organizations throughout Georgia to win an award for being trailblazers in the travel industry.

Officials with the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (GACVB) held a conference in January where Discover DeKalb was honored alongside tourism organizations from Augusta, Douglasville, Forsyth and Macon-Bibb County. Discover DeKalb won GACVB’s “travelblazer” award for the Eastside Hops Trail, an interactive experience that encourages participants to explore breweries in Avondale Estates, Decatur, Chamblee, Doraville, Tucker, and Stone Mountain while earning prizes along the way.

According to Discover DeKalb’s website, participants sign up online and receive a free digital pass that is delivered via e-mail or text. No app downloads are required to participate.

“When visiting a participating business, simply present the pass on a phone to the attendant or staff member to redeem available discounts and prizes,” states Discover DeKalb’s website.

Participating breweries on the Eastside Hops Trail include Contrast Artisan Ales in Chamblee, High Card Brewing in Tucker, Hippin’ Hops Brewery and Distillery in Stone Mountain, Inner Voice Brewing in Decatur, Little Cottage Brewery in Avondale Estates, Sceptre Brewing Arts in Decatur, The Lost Druid Brewery and Distillery in Avondale Estates, Three Taverns Craft Brewery in Decatur, Tucker Brewing Company in Tucker, Twain’s Brewpub and Billiards in Decatur, and Wild Heaven Beer in Avondale Estates.

Officials with GACVB said the travelblazer award “was created to recognize destination development programs and projects that involved multi-partner collaboration within the community and destination–completed new tourism assets that exemplify creative product development.”

“Tourism should not only have a seat at the economic development table; these organizations should help set the table for community projects,” said GACVB officials.
