Officials with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said that when deputies recently went to a Lithonia home due to a battery warrant, they discovered firearms, drug paraphernalia, and a bag full of marijuana, leading to the arrest of 15 people.
The incident occurred on May 16. According to officials, DeKalb County Sheriffs’ deputies went to a Lithonia residence to arrest 29-year-old Jaquavieus Deonte King on a family violence warrant. The endeavor, stated officials, was part of a three-day task force by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Process Unit to make arrests on domestic violence warrants. King’s warrant alleged that he punched the victim, who is also the mother of his child, in the face during an argument on April 11 at their home.
Deputies said while taking King into custody, they found 14 other people inside the residence. They also said they found multiple firearms, plastic baggies, scales, and a grocery bag containing marijuana.
As a result of the drug discoveries, King was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The other 14 individuals were also arrested and charged with non-domestic violence offenses, according to the deputies.
In addition to the arrests made in the Lithonia home, the task force made 11 arrests on four felony and seven misdemeanor domestic violence charges during the three-day task force operation, stated officials.
Charges considered to be family violence and domestic violence include battery, assault, stalking, criminal trespass, and cruelty to children. The Criminal Process Unit also served eight temporary protection orders during this time.
“Locating and arresting domestic violence offenders presents many dangers for our deputies, yet it is a vital task,” said DeKalb Sheriff Melody Maddox. “Domestic violence offenses are personal, and reactions to arrest can be unpredictable because they involve relationships between domestic partners or within families.”
All subjects were taken into custody without incident and transported to the DeKalb County Jail, stated officials.
