Doraville to offer grant opportunity

The city of Doraville is offering a reimbursement matching grant to assist property owners and tenants with businesses in eligible locations in the city. The business or property must be physically located within the city limits of Doraville, on Buford Highway, Shallowford Road, or New Peachtree Road.

The grant, which will help property owners and tenants improve the aesthetic of their business establishment to help revitalize the city and strengthen local businesses, is funded through the U.S. Small Business Administration, according to a news release.

The grant’s focus will be on ensuring quality materials are used and that projects enhance the property’s visual appearance facing the street, which is meant to improve business retention by providing existing, local, small business owners the opportunity to improve their establishments, according to a press release.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has noted that commercial building improvements have resulted in the following:

  • An increase in sales in the year the improvements were made, as well as sustained increased sales for several years to follow.
  • An increase in new businesses and shoppers in the area.
  • Increased likelihood of that program participants will make additional improvements and that neighboring properties and business owners will also make improvements.

The application period for the grant will remain open until all funds are distributed, according to a press release.
