Double-digit home games on tap for DeKalb teams

DeKalb’s high school football teams have won double-digit games in both of the first two weeks of the season, and they’ll have another chance at double-digit wins when county teams host 10 games between Aug. 31 and Sept. 2 at DeKalb stadiums.

The home games began when Miller Grove got a win over Douglass on Aug. 31 at Hallford Stadium and Lakeside defeated Douglass in a shutout win. Cross Keys lost an Aug. 31 game against Flint River Academy.

Sept. 1’s slate of home games involves Arabia Mountain (Godfrey Stadium), Chamblee (North DeKalb Stadium), Decatur, Druid Hills (Adams Stadium), Marist, and St. Pius X Catholic high schools.

Several marquee road games are also scheduled to occur in DeKalb in week three.

Cedar Grove (1-1) will travel to Westlake (2-0) to face an undefeated squad that is defeating its opponents by an average of 31 points per game. MaxPreps ranks Westlake No. 8 in Georgia and ranks Cedar Grove No. 42.

The Saints dropped a few spots but have an impressive early season resume, despite the close loss that came in a road game against Monarch High School in Florida. Cedar Grove beat Dutchtown at a neutral site in week one and has another college-talent heavy roster.

Rivalries

Southwest DeKalb will also take a trip to Decatur in week three to play a Decatur team that Southwest DeKalb holds a two-game winning streak on.

Southwest DeKalb is 1-1 in its first year under head coach Marion Bell. Decatur is also 1-1 after a close win over Wesleyan in week two.

Chamblee and Dunwoody will play in the Battle for the Golden Spike. The North DeKalb rivalry has taken a turn in recent years. After Dunwoody dominated for a stretch, Chamblee now has three consecutive wins in the rivalry.

Chamblee and Dunwoody are both undefeated at this time.
