Double-shooting suspect in custody after standoff

A 15-year-old suspected of shooting two people at a DeKalb County apartment complex is in custody after a standoff with SWAT team members that lasted several hours.

DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the suspect’s name has not yet been released due to a pending investigation.

The suspect faces charges including criminal trespassing and obstruction.  Parish said additional charges for the shootings are pending.

According to witnesses, there was a fight at the Austin Oaks Apartments, located at 4371 Glenwood Road. The victims were reportedly involved in an altercation with each other.

“At some point a suspect pulled out a weapon and fired, striking both the victims and fled the location,” Parish said.

Officers canvassing the area noticed the suspect because he matched the description of the suspect in the shooting. When police attempted to speak with him, Parish said the suspect ran into a nearby home and refused to come out.

The suspect is currently being lodged at the Regional Youth Detention Center.

Dominique Boyer, an 18-year-old Columbia High School senior, was killed in a drive-by shooting at the same apartment complex March 28.

Detectives said the incident involving Boyer was gang-related and he appeared to be an unintended victim.

A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting that killed Boyer.
