Druid Hills cancels football season

Officials from DeKalb County Schools District (DCSD) announced Druid Hills High School canceled all remaining games on its football schedule for the 2020 season Oct. 17.

Low participation and injuries made it difficult for Druid Hills High School to safely field a team to compete, according to DeKalb County School District officials.

Druid Hills’ games against Marist (Oct. 23), Hapeville Charter (Oct. 29), Chamblee (Nov. 6), Arabia Mountain (Nov. 13) and Stephenson (Nov. 20) are canceled.

Druid Hills Head Coach Mark Myers who is in his first year at Druid Hills, he said roster numbers were the most challenging part about taking over during the pandemic.

“What has been one of the toughest things for me has been numbers,” Myers said in September. “The numbers were already very low when I took over. They finished the season with about 35 players on roster last season, and that’s before you take away the seniors they lost.”

Myers said he had more than 10 players being held out of preseason practices in September due to health risks associated with playing in the pandemic.
