Dunwoody kicks off summer with Kids to Parks

Dunwoody Parks and Recreation launched its summer season with Kids to Park Day on May 17 at Brook Run Park.

Celebrating its 15th year, Kids to Parks is a national initiative by the National Park Trust that encourages outdoor play.

“We always have a great turnout for Kids to Parks as we feature balloon artists, bubbles, and face painters,” said Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Waldron. “This event brings our community together and gives us our first taste of summer and sets the stage for more fun in the months ahead.”

The city’s summer events lineup includes free outdoor concerts, movies, and the return of the splash pad at Two Bridges Park. Highlights include:

  • May 30:Splash Pad Opening Day, Two Bridges Park, 10:30 a.m. Free King of Pops and giveaways are available.
  • June 6Pics in the Park, Pernoshal Park, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, 9 p.m. The city encourages all who come to bring a blanket or chairs to spread out on the lawn. There will be free popcorn and candy. More movies: July 11 (Home Alone); August 1 (Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade)
  • June 14: Groovin’ on the Green Series Opener, 6 p.m., Band X with Nero Simon. The series will feature nine acts performing at the Brook Run Park Amphitheater on the second Saturday of the month June through October.
  • These events are free and open to all.

“We’ve developed a loyal following for our Groovin’ on the Green series,” added Waldron. “These concerts have become a signature part of summer in Dunwoody. It’s a chance to relax, connect, and gather under the stars.”

Dunwoody Parks and Recreation also will offer new programs this summer including Adaptive Soccer, Kids Goat Yoga, and SportsPlay by Kidokinetics.
