Dunwoody to unveil Real Time Crime Center

City of Dunwoody and Dunwoody Police Department (DPD) will unveil Dunwoody’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) on Aug. 15 at Dunwoody Police headquarters, introducing an application that city officials said will make responding to emergencies and investigating crimes more effective around the city.

City officials said the technology is powered by Flock Safety, and that RTCC is a comprehensive command center that brings together the city’s license plate recognition (LPR) cameras, gunshot detection, police body cameras, condor pan-tilt cameras, Flock’s Adaptive 911, and other safety features. According to the press release, DPD used $360,000 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funding to convert the police roll call room to the RTCC.

“The RTCC makes the tools we have for responding to emergencies and investigating crimes more effective,” said Dunwoody Police Chief Mike Carlson. “We’ve had great success with new technologies and continue to embrace new ways to keep our community safe.”

According to the press release, the RTCC will be staffed by crime analysts and Dunwoody Public Safety ambassadors who are non-sworn personnel trained to work alongside the police.

“This will be a force multiplier for public safety, allowing police to cover more of our community at any given time,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “Officers will have access to a real-time video and audio feeds to understand the big picture and better coordinate an effective response.”

Dunwoody officials dedicated the RTCC to former Dunwoody Police Chief Billy Grogan. Carlson stated that they wanted to show their gratitude for the vision he set from the founding of the Dunwoody Police Department.
