Festivities and events begin at Town Green in Avondale Estates
The city of Avondale Estates is hosting a series of summer events to celebrate the completion of another portion of Town Green.
A kickoff event will be held June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will feature Donna Hopkins opening for Capricorn Records recording artist Randall Bramblett in an evening that will fuse jazz, blues, and southern rock, stated officials.
It will be the first community event held in the 2.5-acre community space, which features a play area, dog park, pavilion, walking paths, open lawn and similar features.
“With help from our sponsors, the city is excited to debut the park with a fantastic lineup of top-notch talent,” stated officials. “Each event will feature great music, food trucks and evenings of fun.”
Additional events scheduled at the new park include:
- Wasted Potential Brass Band, a New Orleans brass band, will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 12.
- A Juneteenth celebration will be held June 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Juneteenth program and a live performance from jazz/blues guitarist Grant Green Jr.
- A National Pride Month Celebration will be held June 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a community family fun day and a live performance by Diane Durrett.
“There are many reasons why we will all benefit from this park, including a significant move towards the walkable downtown stipulated in our Downtown Master Plan (DMP), which was developed based on community input and called for a public park,” said Dave Deiters, chair of the Avondale Estates Downtown Development Authority. “This Town Green will provide additional green space for our families to enjoy and a great location for local events and festivals.”
