Free concert series announced for Dunwoody

Dunwoody Parks and Recreation officials announced that Groovin’ on the Green will return to Brook Run Park in 2022 with free concerts at the Brook Run Park Amphitheater on the second Saturday of every month.

According to a news release, all concerts are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and are family friendly. Dunwoody officials encourage guests to walk or ride bikes to the concerts and said guests can bring their own food or visit a food truck located on site. Dogs are also welcome, but a leash is required, according to the news release.

The concert series will be held June 11 through Oct. 8.

“We heard such positive feedback about the new amphitheater last summer that we wanted to expand our programing this year,” said Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Brent Walker. “Community events like concerts have always been the top priority in all of our park surveys, and now we have dynamic facilities to meet demand.”

The Brook Run Park Amphitheater opened during the early months of the COVID pandemic in 2020. In 2021, residents and visitors attended the venue for the first summer of concerts at the venue. City officials said the amphitheater offers terraced seating for 500 guests and room for as many as 2,000 people spread out around the pavilion and Great Lawn.

Groovin’ on the Green 2022 will feature the following bands:
• June 11: The 80ATORS
• July 9: Sassfolk
• Aug. 13: Josh Gilbert Band
• Sept. 10: Family Truckster
• Oct. 8: Elton Live – The Elton John Experience

Dunwoody Parks and Recreation officials said the city will also sponsor two additional concerts in conjunction with Dunwoody Food Truck Thursdays.

The news release states that the first additional concert will kick off the Food Truck Thursdays season on May 5 and feature DEPARTURE: The Journey Tribute Band performing on a portable stage on the front field near the playground at Brook Run Park. The second concert is scheduled for the final Food Truck event of the season on Oct. 27 as part of “Truck or Treat.”
