McNair earns first playoff berth in 18 seasons

The McNair Mustangs baseball team will play in the state playoffs for the first time in 18 seasons.

The Mustangs (12-10-1) finished fourth in Region 6-AA—their first season in Class AA—and earned a four-seed in the playoffs. This is the program’s sixth appearance in the playoffs. McNair’s last playoff series win came in a sweep of North Cobb in 1996.

McNair traveled to Chattooga (17-11) April 24 for the first-round doubleheader in their best-of-three series. Scores were not available by press time. If necessary, the third game is scheduled for April 25 at 5 p.m.

McNair is one of 15 schools from DeKalb County to clinch a playoff spot. In Class AAAAAAA, the Lakeside Vikings (16-10) earned a four-seed in the playoffs and traveled to face No. 3-ranked North Gwinnett in the first round with a doubleheader on April 24.
