More all-DeKalb games follow kickoff classic
High school football kicked off for DeKalb County teams on Aug. 20, with eight teams from the county picking up an opening week win. Now, in week two, six games will feature all-DeKalb matchups.
Three of those week-one wins came on Aug. 22 when DeKalb County School District (DCSD) hosted the DeKalb Kickoff Classic, featuring six teams from the district that made the playoffs last season. Tucker defeated Columbia 35-26 in the highest scoring game of the classic, while Lithonia took down M.L. King 37-7, and Stephenson closed things out with a 29-7 win over Southwest DeKalb.
In other DeKalb action, Druid Hills got a 46-2 win over Clarkston for the opening week’s Thursday-night all-DeKalb game; Arabia Mountain downed Redan 42-6 to pick up first-year head coach Dante’ Ferguson’s first win; Miller Grove shutout Chamblee 31-0; Towers hosted Cooper Basin from Tennessee and won 30-7; and Marist got a 10-3 over Woodward Academy in a battle between War Eagles.
