New racquet sports facility coming to Chamblee

A new destination for racquet sports enthusiasts is coming to Chamblee this spring.

Chamblee Racquet & Paddle will open at 3031 Shallowford Road, next to the Dynamo Swim Club. The new club will offer both membership options and drop-in play, making the facility accessible to the public while catering to players seeking a home club atmosphere, according to a press release.

The facility will offer clinics, lessons, mixers, ladders, leagues, and special events. There will be an on-site pro shop as well as courtside snack and drink service.

“As a resident of DeKalb County, and a racquet athlete, I saw a need for more dedicated courts for both sports in my community and an opportunity to elevate customer service within the industry,” stated Jill Flournoy, owner of Chamblee Racquet and Paddle.

According to facility officials, many players who love to play pickleball and tennis outdoors do not love the lines from multiple sports on the public and private courts. It’s especially hard for players new to pickleball to learn the game with painted lines crisscrossing over each other, stated officials.

The news release states that in 2025, more than 100,000 players participated in tennis programming in Atlanta and over one million Atlantans tried their hand at pickleball. In response to that demand, the metro area has seen a growing number of indoor pickleball clubs. Old industrial warehouses and commercial spaces are being renovated into sports hubs, some with restaurants, full bars, and even gaming simulators.

“There is value in all the different business models that exist in Atlanta. I don’t feel the need to compete but to offer my own version.” says Flournoy. “My model intentionally emphasizes things I think are valuable to our community, especially to our youth. Those values include taking regular breaks from screens and technology, going outside to exercise, building physical and mental health by learning, practicing and developing sports skills.”

Pickleball continues to be one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, according to the news release. The single largest group of racquet players in the United States is 25 to 34 years olds, the release continues, and racquet sports are attracting more players younger than 18 and older than 65.

With a wide range of age, Flournoy and facility officials plan on meeting all the diverse needs of each player.

“The key is going to be listening to our customers, our community and creating unique programming that facilitates lots of opportunities for both recreational and competitive play across all ages and abilities,” said Flournoy. “The mantra is not – build it and they will come but, invite them to come and help build it.”
