New social media manager needed at The White House

As President Donald Trump’s administration continues to cut jobs, seemingly across all sectors, I propose that the president take a pause and publish a “Help Wanted” ad for a new social media manager.

Clicking on the official Facebook or X (formerly Twitter) accounts for The White House lately looks like stumbling across a turbulent teenage troll’s idea of a good time. Gone are any updates or personal messages from the president and his administration and in the place of information for the nation is AI trash, such as Trump dressed as a Jedi from Star Wars with rippling muscles or Trump and Christopher Columbus hanging out and wearing sunglasses.

One of those recent posts featured Trump dressed as the pope, a cruel joke made in poor taste as the Catholic church was in the midst of electing a new leader after the death of Pope Francis on April 21. Trump even shared the ridiculous AI picture of himself in full papal regalia to his own personal social media pages after seeming to indicate in a recent interview that he should be elected the next head of the Catholic Church.

The image of Trump as the pope didn’t land well with Catholics as well as many others in America and throughout the world, prompting the deletion of the image from The White House’s social media pages. However, as the saying goes, nothing is ever permanently erased once it’s posted online.

In the United States, the New York State Catholic Conference, which represents bishops in working with government, accused Trump of mockery, stating in part, “There is nothing clever or funny about this image, Mr. President,” according to reporting from Associated Press.

I agree – these rage-baiting posts (defined as content meant to elicit outrage with the goal of increasing internet traffic, online engagement and revenue) should be enough for Trump to tell his social media manager his most famous catch phrase: You’re fired.

00Mr. President, we have ad space on our website and in our print editions if you’re looking to publish a “now hiring” ad. Just contact The Champion when you’re ready to hire a social media manager with some decorum and decency.
