Northlake development recognized by Tucker mayor with award

Tucker Mayor Frank Auman presented his annual Mayor’s Business Award Oct. 6 to ATR Corinth Partners, the team redeveloping Northlake Mall.

City officials said ATR Corinth Partners recently purchased the property with the goal of redeveloping it as “Northlake”, a mixed-use development incorporating office, medical, restaurants and retail.

According to Auman, the redevelopment will bring beneficial business and goods to the community and will be profitable for ATR Corinth Partners.

“This is an award that honors businesspeople who are doing well, while also doing good in our city,” said Auman. “When this Northlake project comes to fruition, ATR Corinth Partners will see revenues—of that I’m sure—but they are also committed to being good partners and supporting the city and its residents.”

According to a press release, the Mayor’s Business Award was created in 2018 to recognize businesses that are making a difference in the community. Businesses including The Local No. 7, Cofer Bros. and FODAC have won the award.

City officials said infrastructure improvements at Northlake have been completed over the past year and that in the coming year the public will see noticeable progress. New restaurants and retail options and the arrival of more than 1,600 employees at the new Emory Healthcare offices in Northlake are expected changes, according to a press release.

“We’re excited to have such a well-regarded institution as our first anchor tenant for this project,” said Tony Ruggeri, a partner with ATR Corinth Partners. “Emory’s presence will add more daytime traffic to an already vibrant residential community surrounding the project. It’s a winning formula to support retail and restaurants, which has worked for us in previous mall redevelopments.”

ATR Corinth Partners officials said Emory personnel will likely move into the mall in late 2021 or early 2022, and that Northlake’s proximity to I-285 and the mall’s parking give the healthcare facilities at the redevelopment an ideal location.

“Partnerships, particularly in transportation, are what made Northlake Mall a reality 50 years ago, and our transportation partners are still important today as we look to the future of the entire area,” said Tucker-Northlake CID Executive Director Matthew Lee. “With direct access to I-285, express lane access coming to Northlake Parkway, MARTA serving the property, a future trail connection and discussions underway for more transit opportunities, Northlake is still the right spot for success.”

The press release states that Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District hosted the 50th anniversary celebration with state, county and city leaders speaking about individuals who helped Northlake become an institution since its opening in 1971.

The presentation of the award was part of a larger celebration at Northlake that marked the 50th anniversary of the mall’s opening in Tucker.
