Rivalry win highlights week three football recap
Bradley Stephens opened with an 82-yard touchdown run to fuel the Dunwoody Wildcats’ 42-16 victory over the Chamblee Bulldogs in the Golden Spike high school football rivalry at North DeKalb Stadium on Sept. 11.
Dunwoody extended its win streak in the series to four games and its overall lead to 17-12 as the two teams completed their 29th meeting.
Stephens raced 82 yards on the first play of the game to get the Wildcats out to a quick 7-0 lead. Stephens finished the night with nine carries for 155 yards and two touchdowns and 59 yards receiving with another touchdown.
Dunwoody (2-1, 1-0) picked up its first Region 4-6A victory as the Wildcats would score on six of their first seven drives of the game.
Quarterback Jack Quartararo hit nine out of ten passes for 144 yards and a touchdown and ran for another in the game. Jack Graviss added a 23-yard touchdown, and tight end Charlie Survilas added four receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown. Liam Whitehurst also tossed a touchdown pass in the game.
Vincent El Bader had a key interception to aid the defensive effort for the Wildcats. Dunwoody takes on Midtown (0-3, 0-1) in Region 4-6A play on Sept. 18 at North DeKalb Stadium. Chamblee (1-2, 0-1) moves on to face Heritage-Conyers (2-0, 1-0) on the road in region action on Sept. 18.

Lakeside 7, Decatur 0
The Lakeside Vikings have won two consecutive Region 4-6A games after a 0-2 start to the season, with a 7-0 triumph over the Decatur Bulldogs at Adams Stadium on Sept. 11 as the most recent win.
The game was a defensive struggle throughout as neither offense could get on track and went to halftime knotted at 0-0. Georgia commit Seth Williams opened the second half with a 99-yard kickoff return for the only score of the game.
Lakeside (2-2, 2-0) continued its tough defensive play (allowing just seven points total in its last two games) using interceptions by Williams, Miller Clarkston, and Canon Davis to stop any Decatur (0-4, 0-2) threat.
The Vikings get a week off before hosting Region 4-6A foe Shiloh (2-2, 1-1) at North DeKalb Stadium on Sept. 24.
Stephenson 40, Griffin 33
A classic high school football game went down at Hallford Stadium on Sept. 11 as the Class 4A Stephenson Jaguars scored with 10 seconds to play to take down the previously undefeated Class 5A Griffin Bears 40-33.
Stephenson (3-1) leading 33-19 in the fourth quarter found itself tied at 33-33 with 1:26 to play as the Bears got touchdown runs from Corde Alexander (36 yards) and Kelvin Johnson (6 yards) and Michael Buehl hit both extra points to cap the 14-point rally.
The Jaguars marched down the field and with 10 seconds remaining in the game and senior running back Jayden Johnson (33 carries, 281 yards, four touchdowns) swept around the right side and into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown. Adam Zelay tacked on the extra point for the 40-33 final.
Griffin had jumped out in front 16-6 before the Jaguars rallied to take a 20-16 halftime lead on a seven-yard touchdown run by Johnson and a 37-yard touchdown pass from Zabrian Boler to Kruz Marion.
Johnson had touchdown runs of 34 and five yards to put Stephenson up 33-19. Johnson’s 281 yards put him at 4,364 career rushing yards and crowned him the new Stephenson all-time rushing leader, surpassing both Kregg Lumpkin and Theron Dudley. He needs just 692 yards to break Roddy Jones (Chamblee) record of 5,055 career rushing yards.
M.L. King 40, Mundy’s Mill 0
The Martin Luther King Jr. Lions won their third consecutive game as they picked up a 40-0 Region 4-5A victory over the Mundy’s Mill Tigers at Cobb Stadium on Sept. 11.
The Lions (3-1, 2-0) jumped out 27-0 at the half on the way to the win and sit in a tie atop the Region 4-5A standings with Stockbridge (2-1, 2-0).
