So long, summer
While grocery shopping recently, I saw a familiar and welcome sight: a display of pumpkins of various sizes, shapes, and colors. It reminded me that fall is, in fact, coming soon.
The official first day of fall this year is Sept. 22, which marks when the autumnal equinox occurs and days become shorter than nights as the sun continues to rise later and nightfall arrives earlier, according to almanac.com.
I find fall to be the perfect time to get more outdoor activities in that I have been avoiding due to the oppressive heat during the summer months. To me, autumn’s arrival signals that it is time to hit my favorite local trails, venture out to festivals, and more.
Fall also means the holiday season will soon be in full swing with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more to celebrate. Each of those holidays means time spent with family and friends as well as enjoying good, seasonal food for me. And yes, I will be partaking in a pumpkin spice latte at least once at some point in autumn.
The blazing hot temperatures may not feel like fall is in the air right now, but soon enough we’ll be enjoying more crisp, cool days and all of the special things to enjoy about my favorite season.
