Sorority celebrates 117 years with health fair

The Metro Atlanta Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will commemorate 117 years of service and sisterhood with a metro-wide health initiative: Metro Atlanta Community Health Fair on Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove High School.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority officials state that the event’s purpose is to celebrate 117 of the sorority’s dedication to “Service to All Mankind” by fostering health awareness and providing resources for preventive care and emergency preparedness.

According to a news release, the event will include activities such as a panel discussion with medical experts providing insight into how the female body evolves through life stages, free health screenings, adult/AED CPR training, stop-the-bleed training, a blood drive, and kid-friendly activities such as face painting, games, and health education sessions.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority officials state that attendees will also could win prizes through raffle drawings and can register in advance by scanning a QR code on the event flyer.

According to the release, the event is open to the community; general entry is free, with nominal fees for specific activities.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority officials said the event celebrates “117 years of the sorority’s dedication to improving lives and strengthening communities.”
