Student detained after another gun found

DeKalb County School District (DCSD) has confirmed that another gun has been found on school grounds Nov. 14.

According to DCSD officials, a Stone Mountain High School administrator reported that a student was “possibly” in possession of a gun.

The information was reported to the school’s police officer and the officer initiated the DCSD’s emergency protocol to ensure the safety of students and staff, according to DCSD officials.

School officials were able to locate and remove the gun from the student “without incident.” The student was then detained. The identity of the student or the reason for bringing the gun to school was not released by DCSD officials.

Within the first two months of the 2019-2020 school year, DCSD had five incidents of students bringing guns to school.

A 14-year-old Stephenson High School student was arrested for bringing a gun to school in August; another student reported the incident to DCSD administration. A Lithonia High School student was arrested at school Sept. 10 after pointing a gun at another student. Two Columbia High School students were charged with possession of a weapon Sept. 19. One week later, another Columbia High School student was found with a gun and charged Sept. 25. A Cedar Grove High School student was also charged of possession of a weapon Sept. 25.
