The Champion again recognized for excellence in journalism

For the 10th consecutive year, The Champion was awarded a first-place in General Excellence by judges of Georgia Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest as awards were announced May 31 at The Jekyll Island Club.

Representing The Champion at the awards banquet were publishers Carolyn Glenn and Dr. Earl Glenn along with local news editor Horace Holloman and his wife Carneshia.

First-place awards were given in the categories of Multimedia Journalism, Breaking News Writing, Local News Coverage, Enterprise Story, Headline Writing, Investigative Reporting, Lifestyle Coverage, Special Issues, Sports Feature Story and Spot News Photograph.

Categories in which The Champion was awarded second-place awards include Best Magazine Cover Design, Business Writing, Editorial Page, Editorial Writing, Enterprise Story, Headline Writing, Investigative Reporting, Lifestyle Coverage and Photo Essay.

Third-place awards were given for Headline Writing, Lifestyle Coverage, Religion Writing and Sports Coverage.

For the first time ever, The Champion won first, second and third-place awards for Lifestyle Coverage and Headline Writing.

In Georgia Press Association’s advertising contest, The Champion received a first-place award in the category of Service-Institutional for an advertisement created for DeKalb History Center which appeared in the annual guide to DeKalb, Uniquely DeKalb. A second-place award was given for another DeKalb History Center ad promoting the organization’s Black History Month celebration and a third-place award was received for The Champion’s livestream coverage of DeKalb History Center’s Black History Month celebration.
