Tucker to give away more masks

Tucker representatives began giving away face masks June 3, after giving approximately 6,400 masks in May to senior and long-term care facilities, small businesses and individuals in need.

City officials said Tucker received another 6,400 masks leading up to June 3, and 3,000 of those masks are being given directly to daycares and restaurants, 400 are going to elderly shut-ins and 3,000 will be distributed to Tucker residents June 8 – June 12.

“We received tremendous feedback from the mask giveaway in May, but still heard from a number of people who missed out,” said Tucker City Manager Tami Hanlin. “It is a priority for our city leadership to equip our businesses and residents with this small item that may keep them just a little bit safer when they head out to the supermarket or to conduct business.”

Tucker officials said this mask giveaway will be different than the May giveaways. The city already distributed more than 3,000 masks to daycare centers, in-home day cares and restaurants throughout Tucker.

The remaining 3,000 masks will be given out through a sign-up system to people who live within the city limits of Tucker.

“The one downfall of the previous giveaways was they created a big traffic mess,” said Parks and Recreation Director Rip Robertson, who will oversee this round of giveaways. “By having people sign up ahead of time, either online or over the phone, we can schedule them to come in at an agreed upon time and place. This will help us to avoid having hundreds of cars queued up and having those waiting in the back of that line miss out on getting their masks.”

Tucker residents may request to receive masks by calling the Tucker Recreation Center at (470) 481-0205 or by registering online at www.tuckerga.gov/mask.

Tucker officials state city staff will verify the residency of all applicants. Anyone who signs up but does not reside in the city will be placed on a waiting list.
