Two employees charged with abusing child at day care center in Clarkston

Two employees of a day care center in Clarkston have been charged with cruelty to children after video footage appeared to show a child being thrown to the ground.

On Aug. 5, officials with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that the two child abuse suspects, Autumn Coney, 44, and Bernetta Glover, 21, surrendered without incident to the custody of the DeKalb County Jail.

Warrants were issued on July 28 after the victim’s mother, Krystin Collier, said she contacted police after seeing surveillance video footage of Coney and Glover abusing her child.

The warrants were issued by the Clarkston Police Department for the arrest of Coney, a Decatur resident, and for Glover, a Lithonia resident.

According to the warrants, both suspects are accused of maliciously causing a minor child cruel or excessive physical or mental pain by subjecting the child to physical and verbal assault on July 6 at a day care facility located at 4007 Church St. in Clarkston.

“The warrants were based on a video from the school given by the victim’s mother,” stated officials.

According to police, Coney surrendered on Aug. 1 and was released on bond. Glover surrendered on Aug. 4 and, at press time, remains in custody without bond at the DeKalb County Jail.
