Upcoming Tucker festival organized to build community connections
An upcoming festival in Tucker will not only provide entertainment for attendees but will also help a local nonprofit to help those in need, according to officials.
Habitat for Humanity DeKalb will host the 2025 Blue Jeans, BBQ, and Blueprints Festival from noon until 5 p.m. on April 26 as “a celebration of the tireless volunteers who support our mission,” said officials.
The family-friendly, free event will offer much of what festival attendees are accustomed to, such as food, live performances and fun while also helping the community through a few unique Habitat for Humanity activities.
One of those challenges will be the Playhouse Olympics in which teams will compete to build themed playhouses that will be gifted to families in need with young children. Festival attendees will be able to vote for the best designed house.
The DeKalb County Human Services Department will also be at the event to host the Community Resource Village area of the festival. The village area will provide a collection of communitywide nonprofit agencies, health screenings, service agencies, and other organizations conducting outreach during the event, according to the festival’s website.
At the event, Habitat for Humanity DeKalb will honor three volunteers and one corporate partner with its highest volunteer honor, naming each of them as 2025 recipients of the nonprofit’s prestigious Golden Hammer Award.
Entertainment at the festival will include the Metro Atlanta Square Dance Association, the Lou Walker Dance Troupe, the South Gwinnett All-Stars Jazz Band, Al Smith Jam Session, and a drumline competition between local high schools.
Habitat for Humanity DeKalb seeks to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope, according to the nonprofit’s website. “As one of the few nonprofits in DeKalb County that provides home repairs and modifications for older adults, Habitat DeKalb focuses on three major components: safe, dry, and warm,” stated officials.
The festival will be held at 2380 4th Street, Tucker.
