{VIDEO} Decatur police search for shooting suspect

At least one person is dead after a late-afternoon shooting at the intersection of south Candler Street and Midway Road on June 20, Decatur police said.

During a press conference June 21, Decatur Police Sgt. John Bender said police are searching for a bald Black man wearing a white t-shirt and driving a black Chrysler 200 or 300, last seen traveling southbound on south Candler Street.

Bender said it’s important for anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Decatur Police Department or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta.

“We need to get him off the streets,” Bender said. “Obviously somebody saw something out there at 5:48 p.m. It’s a busy road. We need the public’s help in figuring out who this person is.”

At 5:48 p.m. June 20, Decatur police responded to a call of a person shot at an intersection. Two individuals were injured during the shooting. One victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the other, 17-year-old Janae Owens died. Decatur police said the shooting victims are related. The name of the adult-female victim has not been released, police said.

“We will find him eventually and right now our thoughts are with the victim. We will bring him in eventually,” Bender said. “It’s our top priority.”

Decatur Police Criminal Investigations Division and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are partnering on the case. Bender said the GBI has additional resources that could be beneficial to finding the suspect. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
