Welcoming August
Probably one of the most notable features of August is the Perseid meteor shower, which peaks mid-month and is considered by many to be the best meteor shower of the year with meteors often leaving long paths of light and color behind them as they streak through the Earth’s atmosphere.
However, there are numerous special days in August that are also noteworthy to many. The first few days of the month are set aside to recognize National Girlfriends Day on Aug. 1 and National Watermelon Day on Aug. 3. Aug. 5 is Work Like a Dog Day and Aug. 6 is set aside for Wiggle Your Toes Day and National Sisters Day on the first Sunday – this year Aug. 6.
The second full week of August recognizes International Beer Day, International Cat Day, National Women’s Day, National Lazy Day, and National Spoil Your Dog Day.
The last couple of weeks in August are devoted to National Son and Daughter Day, National Black Cat Appreciation Day, National Fajita Day, National Senior Citizens Day, National Dog Day and National Kiss and Make Up Day.
As we transition from summer to early autumn, we have multiple opportunities to celebrate our special days and August is full of them.
