Youth sports, after-school programs offered by county

DeKalb County Parks and Recreation officials opened registration for basketball and cheerleading through Oct. 31 and are still accepting registration for after-school programs that are scheduled to run through May.

County youth ages 5 to 18 are invited to sign up for instructional or division basketball online or at any recreation center. The registration fee for the instructional league ages 5 to 6 is $25. Participants ages 7 to 18 playing division basketball are required to pay a $65 fee, which includes uniform costs.

Cheerleading registration is $65 for ages 5 to 15 and includes one uniform. The basketball and cheerleading programs begin Dec. 9. Practice dates and times for basketball and cheerleading programs will be determined by each recreation center. County officials said there could be additional fees involved for cheerleading.

Participants in the basketball and cheerleading programs must present a birth certificate at registration and can register at any recreation center or by visiting dekalbcountyga.gov/parks and clicking the “register now” button.
Additionally, DeKalb County is hosting after-school programs at all recreation centers.

The fee for after-school programs is $37 per week and the program is available for children ages 5 through 13. The program began Aug. 7 and will continue to accept newcomers until the program ends on May 22. The program will provide homework assistance, physical activity, snacks, and social and emotional development, according to a news release.
